When is the Course?
Weekend Ilm Intensive 17 will be held from Saturday November 26th from 12:45 pm- 6:00 pm and Sunday November 27th from 10:00-4:00pm. Breakfast will be served at 9:30 am on Sunday.
Who are the Teachers?
This course will be taught by highly qualified Ulama & Scholars who will combine lecture, interactive learning through activity, readings from the textbook, and self-reflection. Students are encouraged to actively participate as learning occurs best when you are personally involved by asking questions & promoting discussion.
The scholars present will be:

About the Textbook

This is an exquisite collection of incidents from the life of the Prophet (S), stories from our Islamic Heritage, and thought-provoking anecdotes from the life of the author. The aim of the book is to train the reader to enjoy living his life by practicing various self-development and inter-personal skills. In Pursuit of Happiness
After Introducing the author of the textbook “Enjoy Your Life” the Instructor will commence the first session teaching what words, verses and Prophetic traditions are used to describe happiness according to the Quran & Sunnah followed by a detailed analysis of a letter penned by Abu Abdullah Muhammad al–Arabi al–Darqawi (1760–1823) titled: The True Cause of All Happiness and Good is Turning to Allah! Thereafter the instructor will highlight 6 words that will forever change how you see happiness which will be followed by examining select prophetic traditions on the merits and virtues of making others happy. The session will conclude by covering a few chapters of the text including the chapters of: Purifying your intentions, Being unique and Improving yourself.
The Alchemy of Happiness
This session will commence by introducing Imam Ghazali and his epic book titled: The Alchemy of Happiness. Interestingly, Imam Ghazali begins by writing that “He who knows himself is truly happy.” The most striking teaching that Imam Ghazali makes about the Prophets (May Peace be upon them all) is that they are the happiest people, for they have achieved the ultimate goal of human existence. After the instructor teaches us the 5 salient lessons penned in this book, the session will conclude with a study of the following select chapters from the textbook: Admit your faults, Agreeing to disagree, People are like minerals of the Earth and Gentleness only beautifies.

The Keys to Happiness
The third session will commence with 28 Keys to Happiness as outline in the Quran and Sunnah followed by discussions on the topics of: Can Allah feel emotions like happiness and sadness & Suffering and Divine wisdom. The session will conclude with a study of select chapters from the text including: Respond to mistreatment with kindness, Only pass comment on what is good, remembering names, do not be dictatorial and being observant and complimentary !

Divine Counsel for the Lonely & Depressed
The fourth session will cover Prophetic guidance on feeling lonely, depression, the harms of aloneness, reliance on Allah and patience. The instructor will thereafter teach 4 beautiful types of Specific prayers; Salah: 1.Salah of Repentance. 2. Salah for decision making. 3. Salah for need. 4. Brief prayer for seeking divine help and guidance. This will be followed with every student learning a comprehensive Duaa for grief and sorrow accompanied with the commentary of Ibn al Qayim al Jawzi (ra). The session will conclude with select chapters of the text including: Self torture and Problems without solutions.
|DAY 2||DAY 2 – SUNDAY NOVEMBER 27th, 2016|

The first session on Day 2 will commence with a detailed explanations on the Islamic modesl of Contentment and ‘ridha bi al-qadha’. Thereafter the instructor will expound upon 10 pragmatic and practical steps to Happiness from eating Halal and keeping fit to avoiding worldly comparisons and satisfying your soul. The session will end with select chapters of the text including: Controlling your tongue, Being concise and how to avoid arguments, Being content with what Allah has apportioned and the virtues of smiling!
Cheerfulness & The Art of Interaction
This assembly will study the subject matter related to Cheerfulness! Cheerfulness is defined as “a state of being full of good spirits”. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged us to be cheerful in many traditions, thence the instructor will expound upon a few which are relevant to our day and age. The session will conclude with select chapters of the text including : Being kind at the first meeting and the art of positively interacting with all members of society from your spouse, parents and children to adversaries, neighbors and community members of diverse backgrounds and opinions. Chapters on the art of listening and the art of discussion will also be taught!
Positive Psychology & Spiritual Productivity
This gathering will commence by teach a Muslim’s guide to Positive Psycholog y& Flourishing which will cover the PERMA model in concordance with the Quran & Sunnah. The PERMA model is an acronym for: Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning & Purpose and finally Accomplishment! This will be followed by teaching a booklet titled: The Very Best of Productive Muslim which will cover the following topics: Analyze Your Time, The Key to Productivity, 7 Spiritually Productive Habits to Develop, Commuting Productive Muslim style, What’s Your Morning Routine, 18 Sources of Barakah, De-Clutter your Mind, Techniques to Develop a Habit of Reading and The Productive Muslim Sleep Routine! The session will conclude with the last chapter of the textbook titled: Be brave and start from now!

Who can Register?
This course is open for Brothers and Sisters. Although 85% of our course attendees are between the ages of 18-35+ the course is open to all mature students who are 16 years of age and above as the acquisition of knowledge is compulsory upon every Muslim (Ibn Majah).
