ABOUT THE TEXTBOOK
Al-Arba’in (09) Forty Hadiths On Marriage By Mufti al-Kawthari
About The Book
In this collection of 40 Hadiths, the author addresses a subject that affects most people – if not all: marriage. He deals with questions on the purpose and significance of marriage, and tackles more controversial areas including forced marriage, marrying without the permission of one’s parents, and domestic violence. The hadiths are supplemented by a generous commentary which goes beyond a simple explanation of the wording of the ĥadīth to include discussions on how the hadiths is to be operationalised, or put into practice, and what implication it has on marital life.
Mufti Muhammad ibn adam al-Kawthari is a traditionally-trained Islamic scholar who studied the Arabic language and various other Islamic sciences in different parts of the world including the UK, Pakistan and Syria. He has authored many works including ‘Islamic Guide to Sexual relations’ and ‘Birth Control & abortion in Islam’, and lectured extensively around the world on a range of topics. Presently, he resides in Leicester, UK, where he is a teacher of the Islamic sciences, and Director and researcher at the Institute of Islamic Jurisprudence.

Birth control, or family planning through contraception, has become a common practice in society. Many new methods of both permanent and temporary contraception have become widespread. Consequently, Muslims have also increasingly begun adopting the various means of limiting or spacing out procreation. This no doubt has a deep influence on the very core of our society and thus raises many ethical and religious questions, particularly surrounding abortion. Birth Control & Abortion in Islam systematically and concisely presents the relevant rules and regulations of Islamic law on these issues. This session will be taught entirely based on the Holy Qur’an, Sunna, and the formal legal rulings propounded by the jurists of the four major Sunni schools of Islamic law.
Intimacy is not purely Physical.
This gathering will cover the etiquettes and oft-debated questions regarding physical intimacy. Fulfillment of sexual desire and needs are key in sustaining a harmonious marital relationship. However, in today’s society, sexual boundaries are being pushed further and further, and often, sexual deviance is openly practiced. In such circumstances, there is a need to identify which sexual activities are permissible in Shari’ah. This session will cover a wide range of issues, and thus, answer many frequently asked questions on the topic of sexual relations. The session will conclude through the study of Prophetic traditions relating to the rights of the husband and the wife.
